Naringenin is a flavonoid that contributes to the taste of grapefruit and has a bioactive effect as an antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, carbohydrate metabolism promoter and an immune system builder. In addition to being useful in lowering LDL and vLTL (the “bad” cholesterols, Naringenin has also been shown to reduce the production of the Hepatitis C Virus in infected hepatocytes (liver cells).

Cautions: Naringenin down-regulates the capacity of the liver to detoxify chemicals. This can possibly potentiate other medicines. There are also conflicting reports on the antioxidant versus pro-oxidant potential of Naringenin with some studies showing that it can deplete Glutathione in liver cells. We recommend using either Acetyl Glutathione or R+Lipoic Acid (which recycles glutathione) while taking Naringenin.
What it Does/How it Works:
Naringenin is the metabolized form of the flavonoid Naringin, which gives grapefruit its bitter taste.
The Hepatitis C Virus (HCV) is secreted by infected cells bound to vLDL (very low density lipoproteins).
Naringenin lowers the “bad” cholesterols LDL (low-density lipoprotein) and vLDL (very low-density lipoprotein) the “bad” cholesterols).
